An exotic escape at the outstanding Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti

We have just come back, my daughters and I, from a fantastic first visit to Tanzania. We started this incredible trip in The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti.

The Resort

This chain of hotels, which I particularly love as I have stayed in a few of them (The Four Seasons Jimbaran, Seychelles, Marrakesh, and recently The Four Seasons Punta Mita), is well known for its cosy and warm atmosphere, as well as its ultra-chic signature, typical to each resort.

The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti, situated in one of the most famous UNESCO World Heritage sites, hosts the Big Five: lions, leopards, buffalos, elephants and rhinoceros. I can safely say that it offers, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful safari experiences to be had in the world!

I will describe my experience in this extraordinary place

Interior Design Highlights

The entrance of the hotel is incredible! A Maasai stands majestically in the entrance to welcome you and open the gate leading to luxurious and lush vegetation, instantly giving you the sensation of being in the heart of a wild oasis.

The hotel lobby is on a higher floor and as you enter, you can immediately sense the aura of a Four Seasons resort. It has a contemporary design with an ethnic-chic touch!

The predominance of wood, the high ceilings and the references made to local art with a lovely collection of artworks, give the lobby a welcoming, warm and luxurious vibe.

In the middle of the lobby you will find several lounges with voluptuous seating offering a gorgeous panoramic view of the outside.

A majestic staircase, entirely decorated with wicker baskets, links the two floors of the building; I could not resist the temptation to immortalise some of the extraordinary sceneries from this lobby.

Ultra-chic accommodations

The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti offers 77 bedrooms, suites and villas. It is built on wooden platforms and is ideally situated in the middle of an ‘animal sanctuary’.

We stayed in a sumptuous suite with a pool; it was spacious and comfortable, and had an incredible view across the blush. With its pleasant lounge, one bedroom, a bar area and 2 bathrooms, we looked forward to coming back to this chic and warm refuge after a day out on a safari. The design is spot on; warm and soft colours, mixing local references and a contemporary signature.

Outside, the superb terrace offered comfortable outdoor furniture and a pool. We spent many pleasant moments there, looking out for animals, which we were lucky enough to see; a herd of elephants came close enough that we could get some incredible pictures.

Luxurious Amenities

I will now describe the communal spaces of The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti.

The infinity pool is a real gem; with an unlimited panoramic view across the savanna, and beautifully furnished space, it is the ideal spot to sunbathe and watch the animals approach at their leisure. Julius and Nemes pampered us during the afternoons we spent there

The Discovery Center is unmissable; it has an ethnic chic design and is constituted of two areas: in the first one, there are many comfortable seats and a television, and in the second, as if in a museum, you can find a lot of rich information about the environment, the local culture, the Masai people…

I spent many hours there to immerse myself in the cultural heritage, which was totally new to me!

Serengeti comes from the word ‘siringet’, which in the Maasai language means ‘a great open space… where the land goes forever’.

The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti is also an Artists Residence! Every morning, my daughters and I were curious to check the progress of the artworks carried out by the live-in artists.

In terms or activities, The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti offers its guests many activities such as bird watching and wildlife observations, not forgetting the Game Drives.

My daughters and I had the most unforgettable and magical safari morning and afternoon excursions. Comfortably sitting in the resort vehicle, we let our adorable driver Baraka take us. I will certainly never forget the look of wonder on the faces of my girls seeing these elephants, antelopes, giraffes and lions, just meters away!!

For children, a kids club, the Kijana is on offer. My young Mayssa, age 6, had a great time with the charming Godbless and Edward

The Food

Obviously, we tested the different restaurants of The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti, which in my view, are a perfect mix of a comfort, relaxed atmosphere and excellent food!

I will start with the Kula restaurant. Situated on the higher floor, it has a breath-taking view across the surrounding nature, the infinity pool, the different terraces, and the Savanna, as far as your eyes can see. There, we enjoyed delicious breakfasts, and every morning Anne welcomed us with her broad smile, and made sure that we had everything we could ever want.

I will continue with the Boma Grill. This restaurant proposes an authentic African feast around an open air fire pit. The dishes are delicious and inspired locally. And as a bonus, it was a real immersion in the heart of the Maasai culture; my edest daughter Ayla, had a great time joining in the dances with the tribe, and I must make a special mention to Marwa and Jailos for their excellent service.

Finally, the Maji Bar and Terrace, open all day, has magnificent views of the Serengeti Park. We had many lunches there; African tapas, fresh salads, as well as delicious cocktails, brilliantly served by Josiah and Tumanini.

I would say that there are places in this world that carry a strong emotional charge that transcends us as humans, and The Four Seasons Lodge Serengeti is undeniably one of these. It is simply a magical and enchanting place, reconnecting us to Mother Nature.

I must also highlight the kindness and professionalism of the whole team, with a special mention to the adorable Gift and Anatolia who went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable!
