After a lovely stay in the vivacious town of Tulum, we continued our Mexican adventure on the Pacific coast, to Punta Mita precisely, where we stayed in its sumptuous Four Seasons hotel.
I must say that I am a fan of this chain of hotels, as I have stayed in a few of them around the world in the last few years. To name but a few, there was the Four Seasons Marrakech, the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bali, and the Four Seasons Seychelles. I must admit that I am totally charmed each time, and was again at the Punta Mita!
The Resort
Situated in the exclusive Punta Mita Peninsula in the Nayarit Riviera, the Four Seasons Punta Mita is 45 min from the airport of Puerto Vallarta. As I like to say, 'the most wonderful experiences in the world have to be earned!' As we arrive, the view of the luxurious vegetation, typical to Punta Mita, is amazing. We feel immediately comforted by the ‘mi casa, su casa’ attitude and can fully enjoy the Mexican hospitality. In this article, I am going to tell you all about our wonderful stay there.
Wonderful design highlights
Of course, I will start with the design elements that I mostly enjoyed!
When we enter the hotel, we cannot help but be stunned by the majestic lobby, characterised by its high ceiling over the different seating and its breath-taking views over the Pacific Ocean. The elements that stand out the most out of the decoration, which is both contemporary and warm, are the two statues framing the main entrance hall; I couldn’t resist immortalising it with the enclosed photo
I noted the elegant and skilful mix of European and Asian influences, the soft beige colour palette, the predominance of local materials, and the many references to local designs; many artworks are hung on the walls and some art pieces are nicely displayed all around the resort. These give the Four Seasons Punta Mita an undeniable design style, where guests are invited to have a luxurious and authentic experience!
Chic accommodations
The Four Seasons Punta Mita consists of 177 accommodations including ‘casitas’, plunge pool suites, as well as 33 villas and beach homes, all of them luxurious and bright and offering superb views of the surrounding vegetation and over the Pacific Ocean. We stayed in a beautiful suite with a private pool. The design was contemporary and we could once again feel the ‘me casa, su casa’ philosophy straight away! The predominant colour palette, shades of beige, mixed with a Majorelle blue, also found in the artworks on the walls or cushions, added to the feeling of calm and comfort.
The suite consisted of a spacious living room with a large L-shaped sofa inciting relaxation, opening on a superb terrace, a generously sized bedroom with a daybed area, a dressing room/walk-in cupboard, a bar/kitchen corner, and 2 spacious bathrooms.
My favourite design elements were:
- The living room coffee table, whose top is made of a single piece of wood;
- The imposing bed head, covered in a soft blue;
- All the different artworks on the walls.
The description of our suite would not be complete without mentioning the incredible exterior where we spent many beautiful moments. The living room opened on the terrace with a lovely round pool, 2 sun lounges and a great dining space. But the most important feature was the amazing panorama before our eyes; a 360° luxurious vegetation with views over the Pacific Ocean and the neighbouring islands.
Refined Dining
The Four Seasons Punta Mita also offers great culinary experiences in its different restaurants. I will start with the Aramara; ideally situated in the heart of the resort. It offers beautiful views on its gardens, immaculately kept, it must be said, and the atmosphere, with its 100% Mexican live band, is great! The restaurant honours Asian cuisine, but revisited by the local team who use local and fresh ingredients. We spent two pleasant evenings there, enjoying delicious meals expertly recommended by the knowledgeable and adorable Gerardo. We were even treated to a succulent and beautifully decorated dessert on our last evening, as seen on the enclosed photo
Let’s continue with the Dos Catrinas : a very different style with this one, tempting us with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The decoration is contemporary, with a special mention to the many suspension lights that give it an enjoyable evening vibe. Also, its ‘à la carte’ menu, reinventing Mexican food, makes it an essential of the Four Seasons Punta Mita! We had a gorgeous evening there and, thanks to Eduardo’s recommendations, we discovered and enjoyed Mexican Street Food, which you can see in the enclosed photo!
The Bahia, the resort’s beach restaurant, has the renowned Richard Sandavol as its head Chef. Unfortunately, building works were taking place during our stay; a good excuse to go back
The super trendy MEZ is undoubtedly one of the hotspots of Punta Mita! Situated higher up, the views over the Pacific Ocean are incredible, and so are the sunsets! It is THE place to be sipping a delicious cocktail and admiring the sunset. It proposes over 70 varieties of Mezcal: so, Tequila or Mezcal lovers, you now know where to go! In the entrance, a gorgeous artwork says “Love ends… the Mezcal doesn’t!” I had of course to immortalise this with a photo
Also, the pool bar Nuna is the perfect place for food and drinks throughout the day. We had lovely moments there, and Juan Carlos took great pleasure in preparing cocktails for my husband! And let’s not forget the 360° view!
Finally, the Shack Bar, situated on the beach, is for those who want to gaze at the gorgeous sunsets and make the most of the happy atmosphere around a campfire in the evening!
Luxurious amenities
Let’s talk mow about the outside spaces at the Four Seasons Punta Mita
It was a real pleasure to wander around this lush tropical oasis, and make the most of the views from different places, either on foot or in a buggy. Note that these buggies are made very readily available to guests to move around the resort. I was taken on a little tour at the start of our stay by the professional Alonso, who showed me all the nooks and crannies of the resort!
There are 2 amazing beaches and 3 different pools to relax in at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, all wonderfully well equipped. First, the infinity pool Nuna is just unmissable! This large, recently renovated deep blue pool, offers a breath-taking view over the Pacific Ocean. With many sun loungers and different areas, it is the ideal place to spend a beautiful day for adults and families alike. We had a lovely day, with Kevin and David, who were there, at our service, to supply us with many little treats such as ice-creams, throughout the day!
Secondly the Tamai pool, which is reserved exclusively for adults, is a real safe haven for those in search of peace. Designed by Victor Jimenez (Studio 365), it was reopened in 2017 after a stunning renovation. The new design highlights natural materials as well as the local know-how. Daybeds and hammocks are on offer, with a nearby bar serving cocktails and delicious dishes all day long. To the side of the pool, a well-kept and lavish Tamai garden, which leads to the Tamai pavilion, is ideal for private events.
At last my favourite: the Lazy River, which I did not expect to find here! Comfortably seated in a buoy, it takes you on a little tour around the family complex, the Oasis, which consists of 23 bedrooms and suites; it was such a fun time
The bay of the resort has 2 beautiful beaches. The very enjoyable Manzanilla beach, which I will talk about, is where I spent a full day making the most of the sea and the different features. For a light meal, serving local and delicious food, there is a salad bar, ‘The Salad Shack’, and a stall where Tacos are prepared on demand, as seen in this photo.
The beach is just as enjoyable for swimmers as it is for surfers. The views of the resort and its surrounding areas are just incredible and a team of staff is on hand to make sure that every guest’s needs are satisfied. We will keep a beautiful memory of our lazy day spent there, in our private cabana facing the sea, not forgetting Ruben, whose service was excellent! I even got to know our local host, here in the enclosed photo
You can make the most of activities such as tennis or nautical sports/activities: kayaking, snorkelling, sailing or surfing! A whole programme is offered to children and a whole pavilion is dedicated to them!
It is important to mention that the Four Seasons Punta Mita gives exclusive access to 2 superb golf courses, created by the one & only Jack Nicklaus; The Punta Mita Pacifico Golf and the Punta Mita Bahia Golf, known internationally, both offer magnificent panoramic views over the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, I was not able to play on this occasion; it will have to be for another time, especially the iconic ‘Tail of the Whale’ hole, which is a must according to the locals! So, I’ll definitely be back
Opulent Spa
Now for the Spa Apuane! As I am a real massage enthusiast, I did not miss my chance to spend a very pleasant afternoon in this refined and peaceful well-being oasis. The Spa Apuane honours the rich Hispanic cultural heritage of Mexico, which uses herbs and ingredients with healing powers. Personalised treatments are provided by professional therapists. Thanks to the magic power of Itza’s hands, I discovered the resort's signature massage, both relaxing and sublime!
To conclude the chapter on what is on offer at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, I will tell you about the incredible experience of Tequila tasting! Do not be shocked reading this : I’m not drinking alcohol but it seemed logical to me to go to this tasting session, which is served by an expert in this domain! Tequila is a speciality in Mexico and I took a lot of pleasure in learning about the history, the making process and understanding how to develop its taste and colour. Not to be missed for Tequila lovers
Sustainable practices
One last thing before I conclude, the Four Seasons Punta Mita puts in a lot of effort to preserve the environment in which it is situated. Several initiatives have been put in place, such as these personalised cardboard bottles with the Four Seasons logo, that are ideal to refresh you throughout the whole day.
To sum up...
I would say that our stay at the Four Seasons Punta Mita was simply magical! There is so much to see and do and the site renovations are a total success in my opinion: we feel really disconnected amongst the beauty of the resort. As the general manager of the resort Mr O’Sullivan puts it: “Here, you arrive as a guest, leave as a friend, and return as family”.
I want to thank the whole team for their professionalism, and give a special mention to the kind Sergio, from Barcelona, with whom we had many chats when we arrived, as well as the adorable Jessica!
I recommend the Four Seasons Punta Mita to those in search of a charming and simply timeless place; where luxury, refinement and elegance, typical of the Four Seasons establishments, meet the legendary Mexican hospitality, and, on this exclusive and exceptional Punta Mita peninsula!
